Sectoral Collaborators
Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA)
Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) is responsible to manage and regulate the transportation in the city. They have agreed to consider our recommendations of the prototype model, if it falls under their purview, and if they have resources available. ITA also shows strong administrative support to create awareness about road safety in Islamabad. ITA is committed to help us in designing the prototype model (including its components of cost effective Smart Public Transport, and Smart Parking), and assist the project team as much as possible. Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, who is the Chairman of the ITA, has already worked with the project team since last year. This may be considered a sign of strong commitment from the city administration.
National Transport Research Center (NTRC)
NTRC is already working on different aspects of road safety data management. We will seek their permission to use their reports and data. NTRC is a prime agency to deal with the issue of road safety, and has an official mandate from the Ministry of Communication to put forward the recommendations for legislation. As our sectoral collaborator, NTRC will help us to create liaison with stakeholders, and will assist us in our advocacy campaigns to update the existing laws on road safety.
Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police
ICT Police and Department of Sociology, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) have been working together since 2018. Our researchers from QAU have been engaged by the ICT Police to conduct a survey of police performance, which helped them to ameliorate their institutional and administrative practices in 2018. ICT Police is committed to collaborate with us to improve and centralize the drivers’ licensing system, and electronic surveillance model. Islamabad Police will own the smart public transport model and offers to extend its cooperation in sharing the data of RTAs and vehicle demographics.
National Highway Authority and Motorway Police (NHMP)
The National highway and Motorway Authority also maintains the records of some aspects of road safety. Under this project, we are assured by NHMP to provide access to the available data.
National Institute for Regional Studies (NIRS)
NIR is a leading think tank on policy, advocacy and lobbying with the public institutions. They have expertise and relevant links to connect the research team with the policy makers and government authorities. NIRS will assist the research team in the policy devise, its dissemination and lobbying for legislation with the Government authorities.
